To mark the opening of the Museum of British Surfing and our exhibition ‘The Art of Surf’, a stunning work of art was created on Saunton Sands beach. Racing against the tide, Ged Bryan and Mark Haywood produced a huge design of a surfer ‘in the curl’… with our museum logo on his back.
Ged is one half of Here & Gone, who combine to create and execute beautiful, innovative large scale temporary artworks using their knowledge and experience of performance, art direction, and design. Sadly Jon Hicks, the other half of the team, couldn’t participate but his place was filled by Mark Haywood, a highly successful and prolific sculptor, and producer of exciting installations. Mark has a piece exhibited in the museum’s inaugural exhibition alongside many other talented artists.
The Museum of British Surfing’s opening day saw more than 200 visitors pass through its doors in Braunton – a fantastic effort from all the team, trustees and volunteers. The beautiful sand drawing was washed away with the incoming tide.
