1974 - ‘Surf’ – a magazine by Bez Newton is published
The late, great Bez Newton came up with Surf – which went from being typed and photocopied in 1974 to a glossy, well-laid out magazine by 1978. In his novel “The Natural”, published in Britain in 1978, he says there are perhaps “3,000 surfers” in the country.
Down on the tip of the land near Sennen Cove, the infamous Skewjack Surf Camp started up – possibly the first in the World catering for holidays for surfers. it advertised “half price for nurses” to encourage a steady flow of young women to sample the hedonistic beach and party scene.
